about me

Hello! My name is Yen Yi. I am from Malaysia and grew up surrounded by nature and tropical ecosystems. I am most intrigued by birds and the way they live. I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I am investigating whether the titipounamu (rifleman, Acanthisitta chloris) are vocal learners, by inferring from the vocal development, vocal plasticity, and seasonal variation of their calls.

I am also a wildlife illustrator on the side. I enjoy nature and photography, and would talk for hours about birds!
