Thrift Swap

I attended a thrift swap event for the first time today. It was a small scale one organized by a couple of girls, one of which is my friend. It was a nice experience because you get to know people with the same mindset as you on a deeper level. And sometimes even someone with the same fashion sense! There is so much ideas and inspiration to be exchanged and it's not just clothing.

Sometimes we buy too many clothes that we never wear or get sick of. And we either throw them out having never served their purpose. The best option is to exchange it with someone else who will 're-love' your pre-loves!
The amount of fabric waste is unprecedented. There are many ways to reduce this. Once we tune in to the 'zero-waste' mindset, it gets easier and easier. And it's contagious too! Here are some ways you can deal with your unwanted clothes.
Swap them with someone at a thrift swap event, or organize your own!
Tips: 1. A negotiation can go a long way. 2. Iron your clothes and clip away lose threads. 3. Share care-instructions and mix & match ideas. 4. Bring your accessories too!
Donate it to charity.
Tips: 1. Find one that is not the most popular - the ones that gets the least attention from the public are the ones most in need. 2. Talk to the owners / carers about zero-waste. 3. Give a helping hand while you're there.
Upcycle / Repurpose
Tips: 1. If it's your first time, try referring to online references. I suggest coolirpa on YouTube. 2. Learn the basic principles of sewing. 3. Bring these to thrift swaps!
I am happy to add thrift swapping as one of the steps to declutter my room, and my life!
Sharing or giving away my clothes and other things really teaches me the value of detachment, which is the core principle of living a minimalist life. I start to see these things as belonging to me for only a short time. And one day they will belong to someone else who will keep passing them on to other people. When we see our possessions this way, we will own fewer and fewer things, and focus of living life more.
I hope you never have to throw away clothes again! (unless they are broken, then recycle them!)
Happy thrifting~ ;)
